Oh this story!! Daisy Prescott takes us on a journey in Wanderlust (originally pubbed as Missionary Position). This beautiful story of self discovery and acceptance of self really hit a chord with me. Selah has always been independent and self-assured, at least as far as the outside world is concerned. In so many ways she is just that, but she is also a woman struggling to make her way and prove herself. She's never been one for relationships that last more than a minute, and in some ways she really doesn't believe in love. But sometimes beliefs get challenged, and this is never more true than when Selah has an encounter with a gorgeous stranger. Kai is sexy, confident and as much as Selah is drawn to him she also doesn't trust her feelings. Too bad Kai is out to prove everything Selah thought she knew about love and relationships false. As always Daisy tells her stories with lots of laughter and heart. Those are still true here, but for more there were so many emotions stirred by both Selah's journey, both as she leaves the comfortable existence of her home and experiences a totally different culture in Ghana. But also as she allows herself to be drawn into this beautiful coupling with Kai. Daisy always draws me into her stories, but Selah and Kai just cemented a place in my heart! Loved it so much!!

Wanderlust edition by Daisy Prescott Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The one thing I always know when I read a book from Daisy Prescott is that I will get a beautiful, character-rich romance for grown-ups. Daisy is a master writing relatable, everyday characters and exotic locales. I experience how her characters grow and develop as well as become cocooned in her setting. She a wonderful descriptive writer, and she takes the reader on the character's journey to not only find love, but also themselves. This is the case for Selah, her heroine, who I met earlier as a secondary character in Geoducks are for Lovers, Daisy's first book in her Modern Love series.
I adored that Daisy wrote about a different type of heroine one who is in her 40s, never married, confident in her career and has very few regrets in life. The reader, as well Selah, thinks she has it all together, but as she meets Gerhard, we see the way she views life and relationships change very slowly. Daisy reveals Selah's insecurities little by little as she goes on her journey of love in this book. Daisy takes Selah out of her comfort zone in Portland, Oregon, where all of her support system is located and takes her to Amsterdam and Ghana during the progression of her romance. There are a lot of metaphors to Selah's view on life and relationships in this book, and it was fun seeing the author place these little easter eggs for the reader to find. In addition, Daisy has Selah experience new life experiences in Africa which are so wonderful to read. Her experiences become a part of the story.
Gerhard is a great hero too. He is man full of contradictions, and we learn, along with Selah, not to judge a book by its cover. Daisy created a very patient, and old-world soul in this book. He is the perfect ying to Selah's yang.
If you love books where you like to explore the nature of a characters' journey with love, this is a fantastic book to read. Daisy has the reader experience sights, sounds and touch through her descriptive writing. A truly beautiful story filled with humor, emotion and wonder. A true gem.
I know that when I open a Daisy Prescott book that I’ll be diving into a world that’s rich in color. And Wanderlust was no different. Prescott is a masterful storyteller that weaves a tale around locations and characters in such a way that you feel as if you are there with them. Through this book, I got to journey not only to Amsterdam but to Africa. What I love most about her books is that while the romance is a key part of the book, it isn’t the only part. Often, you embark on a journey of self-discovery with the characters as well.
Selah is the eccentric art professor that you’d find at almost any college. She’s in her 40s, single, never been married and without kids. And she’s incredibly content that way. If you’ve followed Prescott, you’ll have met her in We Were Here and Geoducks for Lovers but it’s not necessary to read those in order to read Wanderlust. Selah is witty, intelligent and compassionate. She meets Gerhard while in Amsterdam. They connect and spend the rest of her time there together. All too soon she leaves. Once in Africa, she meets dashing Kai. And he sweeps her off her feet. This is definitely a slow burn romance. It’s not meant to be hot and heavy erotica or explosive.
Kai, I had issues with. He was swoon-worthy at points but others I felt he was kind of jerky. It seemed like he pushed Selah into a relationship she wasn’t ready for or even really wanted. And then once she was in love with him, he went and disappeared. But god forbid, she have issues with that. I rooted with her when she broke up with him because I feel like Selah lost a bit of herself in the relationship. She’s such a strong woman and I felt that at times she got walked over. This makes me mad because a woman shouldn’t be the only one bending in a relationship.
There are some definite twists and turns that keep you guessing. And it’s relatively low drama and low on the angst scale. It’s more about Selah’s experiences in Africa and how they broaden her horizons beyond what she thought she wanted. I think my favorite parts of this book were the background information about Ghana. I’m disappointed I can’t rate this one higher; I love Prescott and her books. But for some reason Selah and Kai’s romance didn’t work as well for me. That being said, I still enjoyed reading it and feel it’s a beautifully written story.
So, if you’re in the mood for beautifully written scenery and a sweet romance, this may just be in your wheelhouse.
